Bruce is the founding Director of ESS Holdings. He set up Edgar Stewart Selection (now ESS) in 2010, originally as a spin out from Smart Solutions Recruitment in Wales, before completing an MBO in 2012 and returning to Edinburgh. The vision was always to create a white collar professional services technology, manufacturing and life sciences recruitment business, that was consultancy led and one that challenges our clients, candidates and people to aspire and innovate.
A graduate in HR and Marketing from the University of Strathclyde, Bruce entered recruitment in 1999. His early career was spent with Melville Craig Group working across the UK semiconductor, optoelectronic, electronics and heavy engineering sectors. Joining the start-up team at Eden Scott in 2003, he went onto become a main board Director at Eden Scott in 2007 helping to build and then lead the Manufacturing & Technology and Renewable Energy Divisions.
Still an active and hands on recruiter, Bruce remains engaged in the high tech and life sciences sector. He is part of the HR Strategic Interest Group in the Scottish Life Sciences Association and is part of Technology Scotland’s Steering Group, advising on skills and talent acquisition for companies across semiconductors, optoelectronics and electronics.
Bruce’s passions lie in mid to senior level recruitment, developing key senior relationships, business networking and building a leading learning and development culture for the group.
